It was this deep, soulful want for some salsa, some beans and a tortilla. I also had to help a friend drop of their car at the dealership out in BFE. So here I found Del Rio Mexican Restaurant, located at the edge of the once remote Leesburg, Virginia.<br /><br />Del Rio is a small establishment, with probably only 15 or twenty tables and a small bar in the back. They do however host an amateur comedy night and even have a very small stage. I wasn't there for the comedy, but I think if I found my way out in Leesburg on a Saturday night for reasons unexplainable I would probably seek solace at Del Rio.<br /><br />My party of two was seated quickly and the chips and salsa followed promptly. This is the most important thing a Mexican Restaurant can do. If the chips aren't warm and on the table quickly, the time becomes slow and uncomfortable. This was a good thing too because the salsa was spectacular. On a five scale rating of spicy it was a four without a doubt. So it was a nice way to get the taste buds slung into overdrive.<br /><br />I washed the fire down with a Del Rio margarita, the low end house version. It was a nice blend of triple sec and tequila. Nothing too fancy or out of the ordinary. My only pet peeve is that it was a rocks drink served in a margarita glass. I like anything ordered on the rocks poured in a rocks glass. But never shall we mind that. The margarita was well balanced and mixed good.<br /><br />For my meal I took charge of the Ranchera Vegetariano which included fluffy yellow rice, salty wet black beans, a guacamole taco, vegi burrito and chili relleno. Sides of beans and rice usually don't stand out, but these helped complement the meal. The guaco was fantastic, and for a combo meal was a good size, but I think I could have ripped three of those hefty sized suckers and called that a meal. The chili relleno, the part of the combo that sealed the deal for me was great. It was not a deep fried, batter drenched affair, but rather and egg cooked dish like my mother makes. So props for the authentic surprise on that one. The veggi burrito was not spectacular, but I am not a big fan of the garden veggies burrito with spinach and cauliflower and carrots. The tortilla, cheese and salsa however was more than acceptable and buried the cooked contents within.<br /><br />If home cooked quality food is what you are looking for, Del Rio certainly provides. For me, the food made for a great, comfortable experience, which in Leesburg on a Sunday night is a good thing.
